AES: Towards shared pharmaceutical sovereignty between the three countries

Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso have decided to join forces to tackle a major issue: the supply of pharmaceutical products. Faced with chronic dependence on foreign companies, the three countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) now want to focus on strengthening and pooling local production.

This initiative aims first and foremost to reduce massive imports of medicines, which undermine the health security of populations.

The AES countries intend to guarantee regular, secure and low-cost access to essential products.

Pooling efforts will also create synergies between national laboratories and optimise the financial, technical and human resources available.

The goal is to build true pharmaceutical sovereignty that takes local realities into account and directly benefits citizens.

This strategic choice is part of a broader effort to achieve economic and social recovery.

By producing locally, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso are not only strengthening their health independence, but also their resilience in the face of global crises and international speculation on medicines.
