Fooball/André Onana set for Trabzonspor loan after falling down Man United pecking order
André Onana is finalizing a season-long loan move to Turkish club Trabzonspor after losing his place at Manchester United. The Cameroonian goalkeeper is expected to travel to Türkiye on Thursday to complete the deal.
Despite initially intending to fight for his position, Onana’s decision came after the arrival of Senne Lammens from Antwerp on deadline day, further intensifying competition.
Head coach Ruben Amorim’s preference for Altay Bayındır in United’s first three Premier League matches also signaled reduced opportunities for Onana.
The loan involves no fee or option to buy, meaning Onana under contract until 2028 is likely to return to Old Trafford next summer.
Financial considerations also played a role, with Onana set to benefit from the flat tax rate of Türkiye and a signing-on fee.
Onana joined United from Inter Milan in 2023 for £43.8 million but has experienced an inconsistent spell. His departure marks a temporary end to his turbulent two-year stay at the club.
