Premier League/ Erling Haaland commits to Manchester City until 2034
In a surprise announcement on January 17, Erling Haaland has pledged his long-term future to Manchester City, signing an extension that keeps him at the club until 2034. The Norwegian striker, 24, revealed the news in a series of lighthearted Instagram videos, where he jokingly addressed Premier League defenders, stating, « Sorry, I’m here to stay. »
The extension comes as a shock, given Haaland’s initial contract was set to expire in 2027. This bold move signals City’s faith in their prolific striker, who has become a cornerstone of the team since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.
His debut Premier League season saw him net 36 goals, breaking the single-season scoring record.
Nicknamed « the cyborg » for his consistency and dominance, Haaland has already secured a Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup treble with City in 2023. He continues to shine internationally, becoming Norway’s all-time leading scorer in 2024.
City, currently struggling in 6th place in the Premier League, will hope this commitment boosts morale. Haaland, with 16 goals in 21 games, remains the league’s second-top scorer behind Mohamed Salah.
The striker will have an early chance to celebrate his contract extension on January 22, when City faces Paris Saint-Germain in a crucial Champions League clash at the Parc des Princes.
