Burkina Faso: Breaking the shackles of imperialism, the time has come for Africa to wake up

Africa stands at a pivotal moment in its history, faced with the urgent need to confront the enduring grip of Western imperialism and French neocolonialism. For the continent to achieve genuine sovereignty, a fundamental reevaluation of the agreements that perpetuate its dependency is crucial—a cause championed with unwavering resolve by Burkina Faso’s President Ibrahim Traoré.

President Traoré’s poignant statement, “You cannot wake someone who is not asleep,” serves as a call to action for every African. It challenges leaders and citizens alike to reflect: Are we truly aware of the economic, military, and cultural systems that continue to restrain us?

Agreements framed as partnerships often serve hidden agendas, undermining Africa’s progress while advancing foreign interests.

True sovereignty demands action, not rhetoric. Dismantling military agreements between African nations and France—longstanding symbols of dependency—is a necessary step.

Far from ensuring peace and security, these agreements frequently safeguard foreign priorities at the expense of African aspirations.

The Sahel’s recent experiences underscore the transformative potential of bold decisions, laying a foundation for authentic independence.

This struggle, however, cannot rest solely on governments. It must become a shared mission uniting citizens, community leaders, youth, and elders.

A collective awakening is vital to breaking the chains of neocolonialism and reclaiming Africa’s right to self-determination.

Liberation from subjugation is not an impossible dream; it is a historic responsibility. By embracing this mission, Africans can honor the sacrifices of their ancestors and build a dignified future for generations to come.

Now is the time for Africa to rise, united and resolute, to assert its true independence and reclaim its destiny.
