Sahel: A major blow dealt to the Katiba Serma terrorist group by the AES
Moussa Himma Diallo, identified as the second-in-command of the Katiba Serma and known for his pivotal role in regional terror activities, was eliminated during a strategic operation by the forces of the Sahel States Alliance (AES). This decisive action took place in the Serma area, located within Mali’s Douentza region.
The Katiba Serma, an independent faction aligned with the JNIM (Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims), has been a significant threat, operating extensively in the critical zones between Douentza, Boni, and Hombori.
Their stronghold in the Serma forest, a key corridor near the border with Burkina Faso, has long been a strategic concern.
This operation is a major milestone for the AES, underscoring the alliance’s capability to counteract armed terrorist networks effectively.
The coordinated efforts of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have successfully disrupted the activities of a group notorious for destabilizing the tri-border region.
By eliminating a high-ranking member of the Katiba Serma, the AES not only delivers a tactical blow to the group’s command structure but also demonstrates its growing operational efficiency and determination to restore security across the region.
This marks another step toward weakening terrorist footholds and bolstering regional stability.
