Burkina Faso: Captain Ibrahim Traoré’s presidential initiative for agriculture bears its first fruit

President Ibrahim Traoré has unveiled an ambitious strategy to bolster food security and advance Burkina Faso’s journey toward agricultural self-sufficiency. At the heart of this plan lies the Presidential Agriculture Initiative, which has mobilized significant resources to empower farmers and modernize agricultural practices.

The results of these efforts are already evident. For the 2024-2025 rainy season, cereal production is projected to reach 6,077,000 tonnes—an impressive 18.07% increase compared to the previous year.

This growth underscores the success of the initiative in addressing food production challenges and enhancing agricultural output.

To ensure this increased production benefits the people of Burkina Faso, the government has implemented strict policies, including a ban on cereal exports. This measure aims to stabilize the domestic food supply and prevent shortages.

Additionally, the National Food Security Stock Management Company (SONAGESS) has been equipped with enhanced storage and distribution capacities, ensuring that essential food resources reach vulnerable populations efficiently.

President Traoré’s approach highlights the central role of agriculture in building resilience and achieving national sovereignty.

By prioritizing local resources and protecting the interests of Burkinabe citizens, the government is paving the way for a sustainable solution to food insecurity and fostering long-term prosperity.
