Burkina Faso Celebrates Volunteers as Pillars of Resilience and Patriotism
Under the theme “Volunteering: A Pillar of Resilience and Patriotic Engagement in Service to the Nation”, Burkina Faso is marking the 2024 International Volunteer Day with a series of events from December 3 to 5. The celebrations were officially launched by the Minister of Youth and Employment, Roland Somda, and presided over by Dr. Zakaria Soré, Secretary-General of the Presidency.
Minister Somda emphasized the critical role of volunteers in Burkina Faso’s development, particularly in times of humanitarian crises, territorial recovery, and socio-economic rebuilding.
“Every day, men and women dedicate themselves to supporting communities and strengthening our nation’s resilience,” he noted, urging more young people to join the movement for a brighter future.
The three-day program includes football matches, blood donation drives, open houses, exhibitions, and the highlight event, the “Night of the Volunteer.”
These activities aim to recognize the invaluable contributions of volunteers while raising public awareness about the power of collective action.
Bruno Compaoré, the event’s patron, described volunteering as a strategic tool for sustainable development and social cohesion.
“Beyond acts of generosity, volunteers drive change in key sectors such as health, education, agriculture, and the environment,” he remarked, highlighting their role in building an inclusive society.
This celebration underscores the transformative impact of volunteering in uniting and strengthening Burkina Faso. Volunteers are celebrated as the « silent builders » of a resilient nation, prepared to face its challenges and forge a better future.
