U.S. announces 60-Day Gaza ceasefire deal, awaiting Hamas response

President Donald Trump revealed Tuesday that Israel has accepted terms for a 60-day Gaza ceasefire, with Qatar and Egypt set to present the U.S.-backed proposal to Hamas. “This deal won’t improve Hamas should take it,” Trump urged on Truth Social, framing the pause as a pathway to ending the war.

Details remain undisclosed, but the agreement follows mounting global pressure on both sides.

The EU recently warned that Israel’s aid restrictions in Gaza may breach its trade terms with the bloc.

The conflict, sparked by Hamas’ October 2023 attack (1,200 killed, 250 hostages), has claimed over 56,000 Palestinian lives, per Gaza officials.

While ~50 Israeli hostages remain captive (20 likely alive), past truces including a Trump-mediated January deal have faltered.

The announcement precedes Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s U.S. visit next week, signalling intensified diplomacy.
