Burkina Faso and Ghana strengthen ties with Waste treatment plant project

In a significant step for regional cooperation, Burkina Faso and Ghana have advanced plans to establish a solid waste treatment facility in Burkina Faso. This initiative follows the Ghanaian president’s visit to Ouagadougou last March and was further solidified during a high-level meeting on June 24, 2025, between Burkinabe Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo and a delegation from Ghana’s Jospong Group of Companies (JGC).
The project represents a strategic environmental partnership between the two nations. JGC, a leading West African waste management firm, will implement the facility in line with Burkina Faso’s sustainable development goals and job creation priorities under President Ibrahim Traoré’s administration.
The future plant aims to address growing urban waste challenges in Burkina Faso’s major cities while promoting environmental protection and economic opportunities through recycling. Beyond its technical benefits, this collaboration exemplifies a new model of South-South cooperation based on mutual interest and African solidarity.
The initiative also highlights Burkina Faso’s growing diplomatic influence in the region, showcasing President Traoré’s pan-African vision for structural transformation. With Ghana’s technical expertise and Burkina Faso’s implementation capacity, the project is expected to significantly improve urban cleanliness while creating numerous employment opportunities.
