Champions League heartbreak for PSG as Atlético Madrid scores late winner

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) suffered a bitter defeat on home turf in the Champions League, falling 2-1 to Atlético Madrid on Wednesday, November 6. Despite numerous missed chances in the second half, the Parisians conceded a stoppage-time goal that sealed their fate.

PSG, struggling in Europe after a shaky group stage (a 1-0 win over Girona, a 2-0 loss at Arsenal, and a 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven), aimed for redemption in this fourth match.

They started strong, with Warren Zaïre-Emery capitalizing on a defensive blunder by Clément Lenglet. Quick to pounce, Ousmane Dembélé turned the error into an assist, setting up Zaïre-Emery for a clean finish in the 14th minute.

However, PSG’s lead was short-lived. Just four minutes later, Nahuel Molina leveled the score with a close-range strike, exploiting a lapse in PSG’s defense.

The French side dominated much of the match, pressing against a compact Atlético defense orchestrated by Diego Simeone.

As full time approached, PSG appeared set for a draw, but Ángel Correa broke through on a counterattack in the third minute of stoppage time, netting a heartbreaking winner.

The loss leaves PSG in a precarious position in the Champions League, raising concerns about their European campaign.
