Burkina Faso: President Ibrahim Traoré accelerates reforms to stimulate the economy and modernize the country

President Ibrahim Traoré and his government are committed to improving the business climate in Burkina Faso with concrete measures to support the national economy and ensure citizens’ well-being. During the Council of Ministers meeting led by Captain Traoré on Thursday, several key decisions were made.

Notably, the government adopted a draft law to strengthen the fight against money laundering, terrorism financing, and the spread of weapons of mass destruction, introducing important innovations to better regulate electronic transactions, which are often used for illegal purposes.

To support the country’s industrialization, another decree was adopted regarding a revised budget law. This will enhance social protection and boost local production by exempting essential products like wheat, corn, and sorghum from taxes. These adjustments aim to support the government’s recent initiatives and address the current economic needs of Burkina Faso.

The government is also being innovative in managing justice by adopting a law that makes community service an independent penalty, providing an alternative to automatic imprisonment. This measure aims to alleviate prison overcrowding while allowing offenders to contribute to public interest projects.

Finally, an ambitious urban modernization program has been approved to transform the cities of Burkina Faso. This program, part of President Traoré’s vision, will renovate historic centers and improve old neighborhoods and secondary cities, contributing to the country’s harmonious development.
