Burkina Faso: Mining sector reforms at the Council of Ministers chaired by President Ibrahim Traoré

President of Faso and Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, presided over the weekly Council of Ministers on Wednesday. On the agenda, the Council reviewed and adopted a draft decree amending the decree establishing the Burkina Faso Mining Participation Company (SPMB).

This decree aims to operationalize a structure created in 2014 that has remained inactive since then. According to the Minister of Energy, Mines, and Quarries, Yacouba Zabré Gouba, this operationalization aligns with ongoing reforms and the vision of the Head of State. The goal is to have a unique instrument capable of effectively driving these reforms in the mining sector.

« In the dynamics of ongoing reforms and aiming to implement the vision of the Head of State, it was deemed appropriate to move towards the operationalization of this structure », stated Minister Gouba.

The activation of the SPMB is seen as a crucial step to maximize the economic benefits of this sector for Burkina Faso. By having an entity dedicated to strategic oversight and the execution of reforms, the government hopes to improve the management of mining resources and generate increased benefits for the country.

The mining participation company will play a key role in overseeing mining activities, ensuring more transparent exploitation, and optimizing economic returns for Burkina Faso. This initiative is part of a broader strategy of economic and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening the mining sector, an important pillar of the Burkinabe economy.
