Football/ AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Algeria dominates Togo 5-1

Algeria showcased its prowess in the race for the AFCON 2024 qualification, decisively defeating Togo 5-1 on Thursday in Annaba. The Fennecs initially found themselves on the back foot after Thibaut Klidjè opened the scoring for the Eperviers in the 11th minute.

 

However, the team quickly regrouped, spearheaded by a standout performance from Saïd Benrahma.

 

Benrahma equalized in the 29th minute with a well-placed shot, igniting Algeria’s comeback.

 

He further cemented his influence on the match by converting a penalty in the 55th minute, securing his brace and putting Algeria firmly in control.

 

Under the guidance of coach Vladimir Petkovic, the Fennecs continued to dominate, with Houssem Aouar netting the third goal in the 68th minute.

 

Amine Gouiri followed suit, scoring in the 86th minute, while Mohamed Amoura capped off the scoring in stoppage time at 90+5 minutes.

 

This commanding victory brings Algeria’s tally to nine points in Group E, solidifying their top position.

 

With the return match set for Monday in Lomé, Algeria is well on its way to confirming its spot in the upcoming AFCON 2024 tournament in Morocco.

 

The upcoming encounter will provide another opportunity for Algeria to demonstrate its superiority and secure a place among Africa’s elite teams.
