Togo: Economic Operators from Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso remain confident in the Lomé Autonomous Port
Following an audio clip circulating on social media criticizing the service quality of the Lomé Autonomous Port, the Minister of Maritime Economy, Kokou Edem Tengué, held discussions with representatives from the Nigerien Council of Transport Users, the Burkinabe Council of Shippers, and the Malian Warehouses of Togo. The meeting took place on Friday, May 17, in Lomé.The criticism specifically targeted TP3.
During this technical meeting, economic operators from Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso formally distanced themselves from the audio. On the contrary, they expressed renewed confidence in the Port of Lomé.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the minister to establish an action plan to address the operational issues arising from the influx of containers at TP3. These measures will be implemented in the coming days and are expected to significantly improve the service quality at the port.
These solutions have satisfied and alleviated the concerns of economic operators from these three landlocked countries. This was confirmed by Mohammed Karanta, the operations manager of the Nigerien transport company (Nitra Niger), after the discussions.
Despite these operational issues, the Lomé port platform remains the preferred choice for economic operators from the Sahel States Alliance (AES).
Furthermore, a call center has been established for the representatives of economic operators from Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali to communicate any dissatisfaction or grievances to the port authorities.
