Togo / Rwanda: President Paul Kagame welcomes his counterpart Faure Gnassingbé to Kigali

Rwanda and Togo have reached a new milestone in their diplomatic relations during a summit meeting held in Kigali. President Paul Kagame welcomed his Togolese counterpart, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, for a one-day working visit a strong sign of a fully mature South-South cooperation.

This meeting illustrates the desire of both nations to forge ever-closer ties beyond the geographical borders that separate them.

At the heart of their discussions was naturally the state of bilateral relations between Kigali and Lomé.

Described as strong and steadily progressing, these relations span a variety of areas ranging from economy to diplomacy, as well as cultural exchanges.

Both leaders clearly aim to turn this positive dynamic into concrete opportunities for their respective populations.

The issue of regional stability also occupied a central place in the discussions. In an African context marked by persistent hotspots of tension, Rwanda and Togo intend to play an active role in favor of peace.

Their joint commitment on this front demonstrates a keen awareness of the responsibilities incumbent upon stable states on the continent.

This visit is also part of a broader trend of rapprochement among African countries keen to define the contours of their common future for themselves.

Far from externally imposed frameworks, partnerships such as that between Rwanda and Togo embody a new African diplomacy pragmatic and oriented toward endogenous solutions.
