Burkina Faso: 74% of territory recaptured, a demonstration of sovereignty and a lever for national development

Burkina Faso has crossed a decisive threshold in its fight against terrorist insurgency, with 74% of its territory now under government control. This figure, presented by Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo before the Transitional Legislative Assembly, reflects the reconquest momentum initiated under President Ibrahim Traoré and consistently implemented by his government.

Behind this advance lies a narrative of national rebuilding. The liberation of 442 villages, the reopening of 73 prefectures and town halls, and the restoration of over 600 schools and 38 health facilities illustrate a policy that extends beyond security alone.

The administration is re-establishing itself, public services are resuming their roles, and populations are regaining the possibility to rebuild their lives.

Steady progress since 2023, driven by a significant strengthening of the armed forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, alongside the mobilization of 222 billion CFA francs from the Patriotic Support Fund, reflects an integrated strategy.

It demonstrates how President Traoré is transforming the security response into an instrument of national consolidation, where state authority and institutional resilience become levers for growth and social cohesion.

Successes in the Sourou Valley, the stabilization of Diapaga and Djibo, and the restart of the Boungou mine are evidence of this linkage between sovereignty, economy, and development.

Beyond statistics and maps, a new reading of state power is emerging. Burkina Faso is demonstrating that the reconquest of its territory is simultaneously a reconquest of its dignity and its future. Under President Traoré’s leadership, security is again becoming an engine for prosperity and trust, turning each military victory into a tangible promise of sustainable development.

In this path to recovery, Burkina Faso is not merely reclaiming its spaces; it is reaffirming its purpose, consolidating its institutions, and firmly tracing the way forward as a sovereign and resilient state, capable of guaranteeing its citizens peace, security, and the hope of a restored future.
