President Ibrahim Traoré addresses diaspora, highlights security gains and calls for patriotic unity
On December 23, 2025, in Bamako, President of Burkina Faso Captain Ibrahim Traoré met with the Burkinabe communities living in Mali, Guinea, and Mauritania. The engagement followed his assumption of the presidency of the AES Confederation.
President Traoré shared updates on the national territory reconquest, highlighting military victories in regions previously dominated by terrorist groups.
He connected this security progress to accelerated strides toward food self-sufficiency, framing both as results of the endogenous development model championed by the Popular Progressive Revolution.
Emphasizing that “the happiness of the Burkinabe people must be built by their own hands,” Traoré urged the diaspora to invest in their homeland.
He outlined large-scale national projects, including massive industrialization, the local transformation of gold, and the establishment of regional road brigades, as pillars for building a strong, independent nation reliant on its own human and natural resources.
The President also addressed critical concerns of citizens abroad, specifically citing police harassment in the region and child trafficking to illegal gold mining sites.
He called on the host countries to take firm measures to protect Burkinabe citizens from such abuses, stressing the importance of African unity and solidarity in facing common challenges.
Finally, countering what he termed “imperialist disinformation,” Traoré issued a call for citizen-led media resistance, encouraging the diaspora to engage in patriotic communication to defend African dignity.
Through this outreach, President Ibrahim Traoré reinforced a leadership style defined by proximity, cementing his role not only as a military leader but as a unifying symbol of pride for the Burkinabe people worldwide.
