Football/ Last-minute sack shakes Cameroon Ahead of AFCON

In a seismic move, the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot) has unilaterally dismissed national team coach Marc Brys just three weeks before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The decision, ratified by an emergency committee chaired by federation president Samuel Eto’o, ends months of public feud. Fécafoot cited a “long series” of alleged misconduct by the Belgian tactician, including acts of “insubordination,” refusal to attend meetings, and unauthorized communication, which it claims jeopardized team operations and sponsor relations.

The firing is the explosive epilogue to an institutional war that began with Brys’s controversial appointment by the Sports Ministry in April 2024, bypassing Eto’o. Despite a solid sporting record of just one defeat in 15 games, the persistent power struggle proved decisive.

With Cameroon targeting a deep AFCON run, this abrupt change plunges the Indomitable Lions into major uncertainty, widely seen as a high-stakes gamble that prioritizes internal conflict over tournament preparedness.
