Cameroon: Some of President Paul Biya’s major achievements in sustainable development

President Paul Biya is a central figure in the modern history of Cameroon. Under his governance, the country has seen marked progress across various sectors, strengthening its position in Central Africa. His achievements are particularly notable in the fields of infrastructure, energy, healthcare, education, and security, providing a strong foundation for sustainable development.

One of the major successes of his tenure has been the improvement of the country’s infrastructure. The monumental construction of modern bridges, such as the Wouri Bridge, and highways linking Yaoundé to Nsimalen or Kribi to Lolabé, reflects his vision of a better-connected Cameroon.

The modernization of stadiums for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, including those in Japoma, Olembe, and Garoua, further demonstrates his commitment to elevating the country on the sporting and international stage.

In the energy sector, President Paul Biya and his dynamic, youth-oriented cabinet have overseen the construction of dams such as Lom Pangar, Memve’ele, and Mekin, enabling the country to better manage its hydraulic resources.

Rural electrification and regional interconnections have also played a key role in strengthening energy infrastructure, essential for both industry and households.

The healthcare sector has also seen considerable advancement, with the construction of numerous hospitals, particularly in Yaoundé, Douala, and Garoua, and the establishment of specialized centers to manage health crises such as COVID-19.

These health infrastructures have improved care for the population while helping to reduce inequalities in medical services.

Lastly, under his leadership, education has undergone significant transformation. The creation of 11 public universities and the expansion of technical education have opened doors for many young Cameroonians.

Furthermore, the implementation of fiscal reforms and the digitization of public services have modernized the country economically and institutionally. The dedication of his cabinet, composed of dynamic young leaders, reflects President Paul Biya’s commitment to building a more inclusive and resilient Cameroon in the face of 21st-century challenges.
