AES / A giant step forward for regional integration: CIB-AES arrives in Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso has reached a significant milestone in the process of regional integration with the official presentation of the biometric identity card of the Confederation of Sahel States (CIB-AES) to the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. This moment, which took place this Monday, marks the effective launch of this new identity document in the country of upright men.

The CIB-AES, symbolizing a shared commitment among member states to strengthen ties and cooperation, paves the way for a new era of security, mobility, and exchange within the AES space.

The introduction of the CIB-AES follows a historic decision by the Heads of State of the Confederation of Sahel States, adopted during the December 2024 summit.

The objective of this card is to promote regional integration while ensuring improved collective security and smooth economic exchanges.

This document becomes a strategic tool for development, both for citizens and the authorities of member states.

Starting in January 2026, the National Identification Office (ONI) will begin mass production of this biometric card. Made of polycarbonate, it meets the strictest standards for security and durability.

This modern document serves as an important asset in the fight against terrorism, thanks to its advanced features for data protection and reliable identification.

Accessible to all citizens aged 5 and above, the CIB-AES becomes mandatory from the age of 13. Priced at 3,500 FCFA and valid for 10 years, this card will be essential for enhancing security and exchanges within the sub-region and represents a significant step toward improved governance of the AES space.
