Chad: When the government and the Miski committee reaffirm their commitment to peace

Chad- The Chadian government and the Miski self-defense committee have issued a joint clarification regarding the security situation in the Tibesti province, firmly denying recent social media rumors of an attack on civilians.

Authorities confirmed that the locality of Miski remains under control and benefits from the presence of Defense and Security Forces deployed to protect inhabitants and consolidate state authority.

This is part of broader efforts to maintain stability in a region often marked by tensions over natural resource exploitation.

Since 2019, several peace agreements have been concluded between the government and Tibesti self-defense groups to foster social cohesion and end cycles of confrontation.

The most recent accord, signed in Bardai on April 20, 2025, is being monitored by a national commission to ensure its effective implementation.

The Miski committee confirmed that no current dispute exists between the local population and national authorities, noting that recent misunderstandings were resolved through dialogue.

Commitments under the Bardai agreement, including the suspension of mining permits and the establishment of a framework for local exploitation, are being respected.

Regarding the military presence, the committee emphasized that the matter is subject to regular and constructive dialogue with authorities, conducted transparently to balance security imperatives with local concerns.

The committee also clarified that the only team mandated by the state and recognized by communities to finalize the agreement is that of the Mediator of the republic, supported by an official facilitation team. This joint statement aims to reassure public opinion and reaffirm the parties’ commitment to maintaining peace in Tibesti—an essential condition for the  stability of Chad.
