Togo boosts agricultural modernization with tractor distribution to Farming cooperatives

As part of its strategic push toward food sovereignty and economic resilience, the Togolese government has distributed 60 motorized tillers to agricultural cooperatives across the Savanes, Kara, and Centrale regions. The initiative falls within the framework of the Planned Agricultural Development Zones (ZAAP) and aligns with national efforts to modernize and mechanize farming.
This move is more than a logistical operation it reflects a long-term vision to strengthen agricultural value chains, enhance the productivity of rural farms, and reduce dependency on subsistence agriculture.
The support is also tied to Togo’s participation in the West Africa Food System Resilience Program (FSRP), which helps translate national strategy into tangible outcomes.
By equipping farmers with modern tools, the government aims to facilitate the transition from traditional farming to market-oriented, profitable agriculture capable of supplying both domestic and regional markets.
The ZAAP zones serve as catalysts for this transformation, embodying Togo’s commitment to structural change through sustained investment in food sovereignty.
This initiative underscores a clear political choice: investing in agriculture as a foundation for national sovereignty, economic diversification, and sustainable development.
