Togo: Government focuses on short training courses to boost youth employment

Togo is strengthening its vocational training strategy with the launch in Lomé of a validation workshop for the development of a master plan for short-term training courses (FCD). Led by Minister Isaac Tchiakpé and supported by German cooperation via GIZ and the ProEmploi+ project, this initiative aims to structure a scheme that has already been trialled since 2022, training more than 500 beneficiaries.
The new strategic framework aims to harmonise two- to six-month training courses, targeting key sectors such as digital technology, agriculture, agri-food processing and personal services.

The objective is clear: to adapt young people’s skills to the needs of the market in order to effectively combat unemployment and underemployment.
The programme also includes outreach campaigns to reach rural areas and broaden access to these training courses.
For GIZ, this partnership marks a significant step forward in German-Togolese cooperation, with the hope of transforming the gains into real economic opportunities for young people and women.
