Burkina Faso government holds strategic seminar on digital transformation for 2030 vision

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo chaired a high-level government seminar on digital transformation under the theme “En Route to 2030.” The event marks a decisive step in the government’s efforts to modernize public services and position Burkina Faso within the global digital revolution.
In his opening address, the Prime Minister emphasized the critical role of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) as essential drivers of national development.
“Under the guidance of Comrade President Captain Ibrahim Traoré, we are committed to a comprehensive digitization process to enhance efficiency and transparency,” he stated. “Artificial intelligence, often called the new industrial revolution, demands that we rapidly build our capabilities to become active participants not mere spectators.”
While acknowledging public concerns about AI, he highlighted its significant potential to improve governance, administrative performance, and citizen welfare.
To harness these benefits, the country must develop a coherent policy, invest in infrastructure, and most importantly train a new generation of digital talent.
The seminar featured three key presentations: the national digital transformation roadmap, an analysis of AI opportunities and challenges, and a progress report on the Integrated Mission System (CIM and CIMEXT).
The transformation roadmap sets clear 2030 objectives, including nationwide high-speed digital coverage, secure and inclusive online services, and a fully modernized public administration.
Twelve priority initiatives were identified, such as eliminating digital dead zones, digitizing all administrative services, securing data and infrastructure, providing digital identity for every citizen, promoting digital inclusion and literacy, and integrating AI into public service delivery.
Regarding the CIM system, the Prime Minister acknowledged progress but expressed concern over delays in some public institutions.
He reaffirmed that full implementation is now mandatory to ensure transparency and sound management of public resources.
Through this seminar, the government has signaled a firm commitment to making Burkina Faso a dynamic and sovereign actor in the global digital landscape.
