Burkina Faso: Patriotic immersion, a government vision to shape the citizens of tomorrow

Launched officially on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Ouagadougou, the mandatory patriotic immersion program for new high school graduates marks a historic step in fostering civic engagement among Burkina Faso’s youth. Adopted during the Council of Ministers meeting on May 2, 2025, this ambitious initiative aims to instill in young graduates strong values such as patriotism, integrity, solidarity, and a sense of national duty.
For one month, from August 10 to September 10, young graduates from across the country will experience a unique program of learning, sharing, and personal growth. In Ouagadougou, the National Technical High School Aboubacar Sangoulé Lamizana is hosting the first participants. Despite some initial adaptation challenges, particularly regarding meals, enthusiasm is high. Many have already expressed their motivation to fully engage in the program, which they view as both an honor and a duty to their country.
The official launch took place in the presence of authorities, and the young participants attentively listened to an inspiring message from the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who praised their commitment. His speech resonated as a call to serve the nation, to be active citizens aware of their responsibilities in the country’s reconstruction.
The patriotic immersion is not intended as a simple collective stay but as a true laboratory of citizenship, where essential values are cultivated to build a stronger, more united, and more resilient Burkina Faso.
This first group of young graduates is being recognized for their courage, discipline, and willingness to learn in new ways. Their engagement embodies the hope for a better future. May this experience mark the beginning of a virtuous cycle, where every young graduate becomes an agent of positive change for the nation.
