Burkina-Faso/Detainees’ contribution to food self-sufficiency: the People become actors in national recovery under Captain Ibrahim Traoré

During an official visit on Saturday, July 12, 2025, to the Tannounyan region, the Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Kargougou, praised the significant progress made in the promotion of medicinal plants in Burkina Faso. This initiative is fully aligned with the transformative vision of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who has placed health sovereignty at the heart of the national agenda.
At the Koutoura Botanical Garden and the Phytofla Laboratory in Banfora, the minister—accompanied by local authorities and technical and financial partners—witnessed firsthand the expertise of national actors in the domestication of medicinal species and the production of herbal medicines. This proactive policy, driven by bold and pan-African governance, reflects the President’s ambition to provide Burkina Faso with endogenous, accessible health solutions tailored to African realities, particularly those of Burkina Faso.
The Phytofla laboratories are a clear example of this momentum. They produce natural medicines based on local plants such as Cassia sieberiana and Fagara xanthoxyloïdes, which are used to treat common ailments like abdominal pain, fatigue, and sickle cell disease.
The promotion of medicinal heritage, combined with an integrated agroecological approach, reflects the vision of a resilient, forward-looking Burkina Faso rooted in innovation. Thanks to this health policy grounded in local resources and championed by Captain Ibrahim Traoré, products like N’Dribala and Kunan potion are now included in national therapeutic protocols.
Under the leadership of the President of Faso, the country is paving the way toward genuine health independence by mobilizing national expertise and restoring the people’s confidence. The results are tangible, and the prospects are promising. A future of sustainable health, national pride, and African leadership is now taking shape for Burkina Faso.
