Mercato: Barcelona face Nico Williams ultimatum as transfer saga intensifies

Barcelona’s pursuit of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has reached a critical juncture, with the player’s camp demanding registration guarantees before committing to the Catalan club. According to Sport, an agreement in principle exists, but Williams’ representatives have issued an ultimatum: they want ironclad assurances that financial constraints won’t prevent his La Liga registration.

Mundo Deportivo reports the deal is currently stalled, while El Chiringuito reveals the player’s agent is pushing for an exit clause should Barcelona fail to register him, Williams would become a free agent.

The Blaugrana are reportedly open to this condition but insist any buying club must still pay his €60 million release clause.

As negotiations continue, Barcelona are keeping alternatives open. Liverpool’s Luis Díaz remains on their radar, with the Colombian’s recent sighting alongside Barça target Dani Olmo fueling speculation.

The situation highlights Barcelona’s delicate financial balancing act as they attempt to secure one of Spain’s most exciting talents while navigating La Liga’s strict salary cap rules.

With preseason preparations underway, the clock is ticking for the Catalans to resolve this high-stakes transfer puzzle.
