Burkina Faso’s defenders: The noble sacrifice of FDS and VDP heroes

In Burkina Faso, brave men and women of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) make the courageous choice every day to risk their lives defending national sovereignty and reclaiming their country’s territory. Some fall in battle, others are wounded, but all write with courage and honor a defining chapter in Burkina Faso’s history.
There is no greater nobility than serving one’s homeland with clarity of purpose and patriotism, especially in a time when national values are under assault, and choosing the path of dignity is far from easy.
While some, blinded by personal interests or manipulated by external forces, collude with imperialism to destabilize the nation, others stand firm refusing humiliation and embracing resistance.
The wounded now being treated in our hospitals are not mere casualties of war. They are human shields who willingly placed themselves between danger and the civilian population.
They deserve more than gratitude they deserve the people’s admiration, tangible support, and eternal recognition.
The government of Burkina Faso, fully aware of their sacrifice, continues to strengthen medical and psychological care systems.
Regular visits, like Prime Minister Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo’s recent trip to the Fada N’Gourma Regional Hospital, reflect an unwavering commitment: these heroes will never be abandoned.
The wounded soldiers and volunteers are not alone. The entire nation carries them in its heart.
Their struggle is not in vain it inspires, awakens consciences, and proves that there are still sons and daughters of this land ready to die so that others may live free.
To all these wounded defenders, the people say: Thank you. And to those still hesitating about which side of history to stand on, their sacrifice offers a lesson: The homeland is defended never sold.
