Togo launches new cash transfer program for vulnerable households under President Faure Gnassingbé’s leadership

Under the direction of His Excellency Faure Gnassingbé, President of the Council, the Togolese government has implemented a new cash transfer program benefiting 31,450 vulnerable households. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Grassroots Development, which is responsible for the operational execution of this major social initiative.
The program aims to strengthen the economic resilience of populations most affected by poverty through direct financial assistance.
Its clear objectives are to support basic consumption, alleviate daily burdens for struggling families, and contribute to poverty reduction amid a challenging global economic climate marked by inflationary pressures and external shocks.
This nationwide initiative covers all regions of Togo, with beneficiary distribution as follows: Maritime Region (9,800 households), Kara Region (9,766), Savanes Region (10,242), Plateaux Region (368), Centrale Region (44), and the capital Lomé (1,230 recipients).
Targeted mapping ensured that assistance reaches the most vulnerable households based on specific poverty criteria.
The program continues President Gnassingbé’s longstanding social policies, which have consistently prioritized support for the most fragile segments of society.
Through this initiative, Togo once again demonstrates its ability to combine social inclusion with administrative efficiency, building on the successes of previous assistance programs.
This intervention reflects the government’s commitment to social protection as a tool for inclusive development, particularly during times of economic uncertainty. By providing direct support to vulnerable families, Togo reinforces its social safety net while maintaining fiscal responsibility. The program’s regional distribution ensures balanced assistance across urban and rural areas, with particular attention to the country’s most impoverished regions.
Implementation will leverage digital payment systems to enhance transparency and efficiency, minimizing administrative costs while maximizing impact.
The Ministry of Grassroots Development will monitor the program’s effects on household welfare, with adjustments made as needed to optimize outcomes.
This initiative represents another step in Togo’s comprehensive approach to poverty reduction, complementing existing efforts in education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
It underscores the government’s proactive stance in mitigating the effects of global economic challenges on its most vulnerable citizens.
