Zimbabwe’s foreign Minister visits Moscow to strengthen t ies with Russia

Zimbabwe’s Foreign Minister, Amon Murwira, reportedly began an official visit to Moscow on Thursday, March 6, to meet with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. The discussions focused on deepening bilateral relations, with both nations emphasizing shared economic and political interests.

 

During a joint press conference, Lavrov highlighted the potential for expanded cooperation in trade, energy, mining, agriculture, civil nuclear technology, and innovation.

 

He also revealed that Russia currently provides 125 scholarships to Zimbabwean students and plans to increase this number to boost academic exchanges.

 

Murwira reiterated Zimbabwe’s commitment to strengthening ties with Russia and expressed Harare’s interest in joining the BRICS bloc, viewing it as a significant economic opportunity.

 

“We are actively working to meet the necessary criteria and await an official response,” he stated.

 

The visit underscores growing collaboration between Russia and Zimbabwe, as Moscow continues to expand its influence in Africa. The upcoming Russia-Africa Ministerial Forum in 2025 is expected to further solidify these partnerships, offering a platform for enhanced dialogue and cooperation.

 

 This meeting marks a pivotal moment in the evolving relationship between the two nations.
