Burkina Faso takes a major step towards food self-sufficiency with a strategic investment

Burkina Faso is making significant strides toward food self-sufficiency through an ambitious initiative led by President Captain Ibrahim Traoré. Recognizing the vital role of agriculture in national development, his government has committed over 13 billion CFA francs to modernize the sector by acquiring state-of-the-art agricultural equipment.
This investment includes bulldozers, graders, and other specialized machinery, designed to enhance hydro-agricultural infrastructure and boost productivity.
The initiative aims to transform Burkina Faso’s agricultural landscape by improving land use and water resource management.
To ensure the project’s efficient implementation, State Minister for Agriculture, Commander Ismaël Sombié, recently traveled to the Port of Tema, Ghana, to oversee the arrival of the equipment.
These resources will strengthen the capacities of the National Office for Dams and Hydro-Agricultural Development (ONBAH) and the National Land Development and Rural Equipment Corporation (SONATER), two key institutions in the country’s agricultural sector.
This initiative reflects the President’s vision of prioritizing food security as a cornerstone of his political agenda.
By accelerating land development and optimizing water resource utilization, the government aims to secure a stable and sustainable agricultural production to meet national demands.
This investment marks a turning point in Burkina Faso’s pursuit of food independence. It underscores a firm commitment to building a resilient and productive agropastoral sector, capable of sustaining the population and driving economic growth across the nation.
