Robert Dussey calls for Africa’s full emancipation at Berlin Conference anniversary

During the symposium commemorating the 140th anniversary of the Berlin Conference, held on January 29, 2024, in Germany’s capital, Togolese Foreign Minister, Professor Robert Dussey, delivered a compelling speech advocating for Africa’s complete liberation from lingering colonial influences.

In his address, he challenged the persistent impact of colonial history on global relations and called for Africa to take full control of its political, economic, and diplomatic future.

“Africa must no longer be a prize to be contested or a mere zone of influence. It must be the master of its own destiny,” he asserted with conviction.

Professor Dussey emphasized the urgency of strengthening African unity to ensure fair and effective representation on the world stage.

He insisted that the continent must move beyond being a passive observer in international affairs and instead assert its influence in shaping global decisions.

Highlighting the growing wave of Pan-African consciousness both within Africa and across the diaspora, the Togolese diplomat urged African nations to rely on their own resources and engage in partnerships based on mutual respect rather than dependency.

“The time has come for Africa to break free from external dominance and establish itself as a key player in global geopolitics,” he declared.

Through this call to action, Professor Dussey reinforced the imperative for Africa to embrace self-determination and sustainable development as the true path to sovereignty and long-term progress.
