Chelsea strengthens squad with early return of Aarón Anselmino

Chelsea has made an unexpected move in the January transfer window by recalling 19-year-old defender Aarón Anselmino from his loan at Boca Juniors. Initially set to stay with the Argentine club for the entire season, the Blues have decided to bring him back early as they seek to bolster their defensive options.

Signed last summer for a reported €15 million, Anselmino was loaned to his boyhood club to gain valuable first-team experience.

Standing at 1.86m, the young central defender was seen as a promising prospect for the Premier League.

However, recurring hamstring injuries have limited his playing time, sidelining him for around ten games this season.

Rather than leaving him in Argentina, Chelsea has opted to take control of his recovery and development.

Once fully fit, Anselmino is expected to join Enzo Maresca’s squad, where he will aim to make his mark in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

This proactive decision signals Chelsea’s commitment to nurturing their young talent while also addressing immediate squad needs. As the January window unfolds, Anselmino’s recall could mark the start of further strategic moves by the London club.
