Burkina Faso: Ouagadougou to host the first Games of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES)

Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, has unveiled an ambitious initiative during his policy address to the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT): the launch of the Alliance of Sahel States  (AES) Games.

This multi-sport event aims to bring together Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger in a celebration of regional solidarity and cooperation.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the AES Games are designed to strengthen ties among these three Sahelian nations, which share common challenges such as security and socio-economic development.

The event will also serve as a platform to showcase and nurture local sporting talent while using sports as a tool to promote peace and unity.

In addition to the athletic competitions, the Games will feature cultural and artistic events that highlight the rich heritage and traditions of the Sahel region.

This cultural showcase will celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of the peoples of these nations, fostering a deeper sense of collective identity.

The AES Games reflect a broader commitment by the leaders of these countries to collaborate on multiple fronts, extending beyond security and defense.

This initiative symbolizes a step toward greater regional integration, built on shared values and a collective vision for a resilient and prosperous future.
