Mali: The arrest of a Daech leader gives renewed hope in the Sahel

The Malian army has achieved a significant breakthrough by targeting the core of jihadist networks operating in the region. Ahmad Ag Ditta, a senior leader of the terrorist group ISIS in the Sahel, was captured during a meticulously planned operation in the Ménaka region in eastern Mali.

This large-scale operation, the result of extensive intelligence work and strategic preparation, marks a critical step in the military’s efforts to restore stability and reassert state authority across the nation.

In addition to Ahmad Ag Ditta’s arrest, the operation led to the elimination of several of his associates, delivering a substantial blow to the operational capacity of this terrorist cell.

This success underscores the unwavering commitment of the Malian armed forces to safeguard local populations and secure vulnerable areas.

It also highlights the growing efficiency and capability of the military in addressing security threats with greater precision and effectiveness.

For the people of the Ménaka region, who have endured years of violence and atrocities at the hands of armed groups, this victory offers renewed hope.

It serves as a clear demonstration of the authorities’ dedication to defending citizens’ rights and working towards lasting peace.

To build on this momentum, the Malian government must intensify efforts to stabilize the liberated areas, bolster intelligence systems, and adopt a comprehensive approach that incorporates economic development and social cohesion.
