Togo: A strategic partnership with the Commonwealth to deliver concrete results
The diversification of Togo’s international partnerships, a key strategy implemented by President Faure Gnassingbé, continues to yield tangible results. A clear example of this success is the historic agreement signed on December 5, 2024, between Togo and the Commonwealth.
Two years after Togo’s membership, the country has reached a significant milestone in its collaboration with the international organization by establishing a comprehensive cooperation framework.
This agreement, signed in London by Prime Minister Victoire Dogbé and Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland, outlines key priorities for Commonwealth support to Togo.
The partnership focuses on strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, climate finance, and strengthening institutional capacities.
It also includes initiatives aimed at youth development and human capital building. The ambitious roadmap aims for concrete outcomes that will positively impact the lives of Togolese citizens, a priority emphasized by the government, which is committed to maximizing the benefits of this cooperation to meet the aspirations of its people.
With 56 member states and 60% of its population under the age of 30, the Commonwealth presents a unique platform for investing in the future of Togo’s youth.
The Secretary-General reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to working with Togo to deliver innovative and inclusive projects, further solidifying the country’s role on the international stage.
