Burkina Faso boosts food security in Loroum Province with agricultural support initiative
In a strategic move to enhance food self-sufficiency and support displaced populations, the government of Burkina Faso, under President Ibrahim Traoré, has launched a significant agricultural initiative in the Loroum province. As part of the 2024-2025 dry season campaign, residents have received free agricultural inputs and irrigation equipment, marking a major step towards revitalizing local economies.
Led by Agriculture Minister Commander Ismaël Sombié, the initiative distributed 30 tonnes of potato seeds, 24 tonnes of NPK fertilizer, 100 treatment devices, and 10 water pumps to local farmers.
This support aims to bolster the cultivation of potatoes and vegetables, which are vital to the region’s economy and food security.
The program aligns with the government’s dual strategy of territorial reconquest and economic revitalization. By empowering farmers with essential resources, many displaced families are now able to return home and resume farming activities, fostering resilience and self-reliance in the face of ongoing challenges.
The Association for the Development of Loroum expressed gratitude for the transformative impact of the initiative.
Beneficiaries emphasized that such measures demonstrate the government’s commitment to combining security efforts with sustainable development.
This initiative underscores Burkina Faso’s dedication to placing its citizens at the forefront of national priorities, ensuring long-term stability and prosperity.
By addressing both immediate needs and future growth, the government is paving the way for a resilient and food-secure nation.
