Burkina Faso/Budget 2025: An ambitious strategy for security and development

On November 13, 2024, the government approved the draft budget for the 2025 fiscal year, reflecting a bold commitment to restoring stability and security across Burkina Faso. With a focus on counterterrorism, the proposed budget allocates substantial resources to upgrade the defense and security forces, aiming to boost field operations and modernize capabilities.

A key objective is to reclaim national sovereignty by restoring control over all regions of the country, viewed as vital for ensuring peace and protecting Burkina Faso’s territorial integrity.

Additionally, the budget addresses the ongoing humanitarian crisis, with targeted support for internally displaced populations and for communities hardest hit by violence.

Investment plans prioritize urgent needs in healthcare, education, and infrastructure, supporting immediate citizen needs while laying foundations for long-term growth.

In a recent address, Captain Ibrahim Traoré urged his administration to focus the budget on these pressing national priorities, stressing the importance of responding to current challenges effectively.

He emphasized that re-establishing trust between the people and the state requires improving governance and enhancing transparency.

These elements are central to his vision of reforming the state and restoring public faith in governmental institutions.

Achieving these goals is also seen as vital to advancing national reconciliation and social cohesion, with the aim of uniting all Burkinabe around a shared vision and a hopeful future.

This draft budget is therefore a significant milestone in Captain Traoré’s broader strategy, setting the groundwork for a more secure, unified, and resilient Burkina Faso.
