Sahel: Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expected in Mali and Burkina Faso to strengthen regional cooperation

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye will undertake an official visit to Mali and Burkina Faso on Thursday, May 30, 2024. According to a statement from the Office of the President, the visit aims to « strengthen the historic ties of good neighborliness, fraternal friendship, solidarity, and multifaceted cooperation ».

President Faye’s tour is part of an effort to consolidate diplomatic and economic relations between Senegal and its neighboring countries in the sub-region. The visit to Mali and Burkina Faso adds to a series of trips the Senegalese president has made to other countries in the sub-region, including Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mauritania, and The Gambia.

The Senegalese presidency’s statement highlights the intention to strengthen historic ties and good neighborly relations.
