Togo : Port of Lomé, main commercial hub for the AES
After Niger, Burkina Faso aims to strengthen its trade relationship with Togo. A Burkinabe delegation led by the Minister of Transport, during their stay in the Togolese capital, engaged in discussions with Togolese ministers of trade and maritime economy. The objective of this working visit is to enhance transportation efficiency along the Lomé-Ouagadougou corridor to boost economic exchanges.
Initially, both parties outlined the challenges faced along the corridor and proposed solutions to these issues, aiming to strengthen exchanges between the two states. The Togolese side, in line with the government’s ambition to make Lomé a « logistics and service hub to serve the hinterland », announced significant measures to facilitate the transit of goods from Burkina Faso through the corridor.
It is worth noting that trade between Togo and Burkina Faso has increased, with Burkina Faso ranking as the second largest customer of Togo. With a percentage of 8.4%, exports from Lomé to Ouagadougou are estimated at 21.6 billion CFA francs.
Thus, these exchanges are expected to increase in the coming days according to the measures announced by Togolese authorities. The Port of Lomé reinforces its reputation as a maritime hub for the countries of the Sahel Alliance and remains a pivotal point in global economies.
