TOGO : Funeral of Bitala Madjoulba in the Presence of Head of State Faure Gnassingbé
Colonel Bitala Madjoulba was buried on Friday, March 8, 2024, in his hometown of Siou in a private family ceremony. The funeral of the former Chief of the 1st Battalion of Rapid Intervention (1st BIR) took place in the presence of the Togolese Head of State, His Excellency Faure Gnassingbé.
After the funeral vigil in Lomé on March 6 and another vigil on March 7 in Siou, Colonel Bitala Madjoulba was taken on Friday to his final resting place following a mass at the Immaculate Conception Church in Siou. The mass was presided over by Bishop Jacques Longah, the Bishop of Kara.
Togolese Head of State, Faure Gnassingbé, as well as numerous government officials including Colonel Calixte Madjoulba, Minister of Security and elder brother of the deceased, Gilbert Bawara, Minister of Public Service and a member of the deceased’s family, and high-ranking military officials including General Tassanti Djato, the Chief of Staff of the Togolese Armed Forces, were in attendance.
Also present was Alphonse Waguena, Togo’s representative to the Francophonie with residence in Gabon. Not to forget the children of the deceased and members of extended family and allies.
The officers of the 2nd promotion of the Togolese Armed Forces Training School (EFOFAT) delivered the military eulogy. They praised the bravery of the distinguished officer of the Togolese army, while the family eulogy was delivered by the son of the illustrious deceased.
Colonel Bitala Madjoulba, commander of the 1st Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR), was found dead in his office on May 4, 2020, the day after the inauguration of President Faure Gnassingbé. He was 52 years old.
