Africa : Towards the end of terrorism in the Sahel, creation of a joint force by AES countries

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, in Niamey, the capital of Niger, a historic meeting took place bringing together the chiefs of the armies of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso. These member states of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) jointly announced the creation of a united force to combat jihadist groups operating in the Sahel region.

The countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) are determined to defend their sovereignty and ensure the security of their territory.

Following this decisive meeting, it was agreed that this joint force would be quickly operational to address urgent security challenges threatening the stability of the AES region. This initiative marks a significant turning point in regional cooperation to counter terrorist threats and ensure the security of the populations residing in this crucial region.

The armies of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger have worked closely together to develop an innovative operational concept aimed at achieving defense and security objectives across the territory occupied by these three countries.

This operational concept demonstrates the determined commitment of the three nations to coordinate their efforts in the fight against security threats, by implementing effective and concerted strategies to ensure the protection of populations and the stability of the Sahel region.
