Burkina Faso / Securing the Territory : Military Leaders visit gendarmerie units in Toéni and Barani
Lieutenant Colonel SIB Sié Arnaud and Lieutenant Colonel NIANGAO Bapan visited the territorial brigade of the Gendarmerie in Barani and the Gendarmerie detachment in Toéni, as well as the Rapid Surveillance and Intervention Action Groups (GARSI) of the National Gendarmerie on Thursday, February 29, 2024. The purpose of this visit by military leaders is to grasp the realities experienced by soldiers in these localities.
Based in the Boucle du Mouhoun region, these gendarmerie brigades were honored by the presence of the commander of the Special Legion, Lieutenant Colonel SIB Sié Arnaud, and the commander of the 5th Gendarmerie Legion, Lieutenant Colonel NIANGAO Bapan, accompanied by Lieutenant GORGO Ghislain Honoré, representing the commander of the Forces Group for the Securing of the Boucle du Mouhoun (GFSBM).
The visit of these military leaders also aims to understand the security situation and to re-mobilize the troops in this border area with Mali, known for its numerous terrorist attacks. It was an opportunity for them to congratulate the combat forces and convey the encouragement of the military hierarchy, particularly from the Chief of Staff of the National Gendarmerie, for the daily work done on the ground.
As a reminder, the GARSI units were deployed in 2019 and their primary mission is to combat terrorism and organized transnational crime.
