Mali : President Assimi Goïta reiterates his commitment to fight corruption in all its forms

Corruption and illicit enrichment are two afflictions that severely impact many nations, keeping them ensnared in the chains of poverty. No state can claim progress without actively combating these maladies.The President of the Malian transition, Assimi Goïta, has recognized this and has taken comprehensive measures to ensure substantial actions are implemented to free society from the impediments hindering its development.

In a speech delivered on January 24, 2024, the President expressed his desire for no one to be implicated in a corruption case, whether they are close to him or not. He also underscored the necessity of combating minor corruption within administrative offices. The President commended the judiciary for its efforts in the fight against corruption, highlighting convictions of several individuals, including former ministers.

Additionally, Assimi Goïta addressed criticisms of the cybercrime law, which had been denounced by human rights organizations. He reassured that the law aims to protect citizens from abuses such as defamation and insults.

Lastly, the President revealed that government members have not received their full salaries for two years, explaining that this measure was necessary to control public spending and rectify the country’s finances.

President Goïta’s statements signify his commitment to making the fight against corruption a top priority in the Malian transition. It is hoped that other members of the government share the same vision to initiate the country’s development.
