DRC : Félix Tshisekedi Calls for Calm
After the announcement of the results of the presidential election, President Félix Tshisekedi urged the population on Friday to remain calm and show mutual tolerance and solidarity.
The President called on the government to continue unwaveringly with its sovereign missions to ensure the continuity of the state and public services.
He condemned reprehensible acts and behaviors manifested in some places by the expression of intolerance and the commission of unacceptable violence.
The current context in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) clearly shows that some opposition figures deliberately want to sow chaos. This confirms the observation made by the government spokesperson on October 31. In a pre-election debriefing, the government spokesperson stated that there was an impression that the opposition was preparing for protests rather than the election.
While no election is ever perfect, the opposition should acknowledge that it failed to convince the electorate with its discourse and agenda. The occasion does not call for street protests that will lead to damage but rather for fostering unity among all sons and daughters of the DRC.
For the sake of the Congolese people, the opposition must accept its defeat, as victory is already certain for Félix Tshisekedi.
Similarly to Constant Mutamba, candidate number 7, Tony Casius Bolamba acknowledged his defeat and congratulated Tshisekedi on his reelection.
Both opposition candidates recognized the gap created by candidate number 20, which, in their view, cannot be bridged by them as challengers.
On the seventh day of progressive proclamations, Félix Tshisekedi is leading with 72.89% of the 15.923.911 expressed votes.
