DRC/Presidential 2023 : Félix Tshisekedi’s Imminent Victory After Partial Results
On Thursday, December 28, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) provided a final update on the partial results of the presidential election held on December 20 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). According to these results, the incumbent president and candidate in this election are approaching the 10 million vote mark.
According to the CENI, these partial results place the incumbent president at the forefront with just over 76.04% of the votes. This has led one of his opponents, Constant Mutamba, to congratulate him. President Félix Tshisekedi has reportedly established a significant lead over other main contenders, specifically with 9.539.315 votes.
In light of these CENI figures, many Congolese believe that the re-election of the incumbent president at the helm of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is imminent. In President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi’s camp, according to reports, there is already jubilation.
For some supporters, like Augustin Kabuya, the Secretary-General of the ruling party, UDPS (Union for Democracy and Social Progress), the garnered score is not a surprise but rather a confirmation of what was expected. This is because their candidate, the incumbent president, has the support of prominent politicians in the country.
As a reminder, over 40 million Congolese voters cast their ballots on Wednesday, December 20, to elect their president. It’s worth noting that the provisional results of the presidential election will be announced on Sunday, December 31, 2023, by the CENI.
Elected in 2018 as the successor to Joseph Kabila, incumbent president Félix Tshisekedi has a strong chance of seeking a second term of five (05) years at the helm of this Central African country to continue his development initiatives and efforts to combat insecurity.
