Burkina Faso : Government initiative in the case of « Fin Coal », cargo declared state-owned and fine imposed on Essakane

The transitional government has responded to popular demands by taking decisive measures in the « charcoal fines » case. By declaring the shipment as state property and imposing a fine on Essakane, the government aims to address this longstanding issue, aligning with the Burkinabé people’s desire and supporting the fight against terrorism through funds generated from the fine and the shipment.

However, allegations have surfaced, accusing certain magistrates overseeing the case of deliberately neglecting it for personal gains. This revelation raises concerns about the integrity of the judicial process and the impartiality of the magistrates.

Despite the legitimacy of the government’s decision, dissatisfied magistrates may attempt to manipulate public opinion to defend their threatened personal interests. The « charcoal fines » case highlights the challenges facing the judicial system and underscores the importance of restoring public trust in the legal process.
