Africa: Niger suspends its cooperation with La Francophonie, while Germany strengthens its strategic commitment

The International Organization of La Francophonie has joined the ranks of opponents in Niger, announcing the suspension of the country and its institutions. In response, the National Council for the Salvation of the People, in collaboration with the government, has decided to suspend Niamey’s cooperation with the International Organization of La Francophonie.

This organization, often perceived as an instrument for promoting French interests, particularly in Africa, appears to be increasingly out of sync with Niger’s aspirations, which seek mutually beneficial partnerships.

Nigerien authorities are clearly expressing their desire to end collaborations that are not mutually beneficial.

While France appears to be facing growing isolation, other global powers are adjusting their approach by recognizing the strategic importance of Niger and seeking to align their cooperation with the country’s aspirations and sovereignty.

Germany has chosen a different path. German Minister of Defense, Boris Pistorius, announced during a visit to Niamey that his country not only would continue but strengthen its military cooperation with Niger.

The meeting emphasized the revitalization of military cooperation between the two countries, symbolizing Germany’s commitment to Niger in a complex geopolitical context.

Upcoming projects, such as the construction of a hospital in Niger and ongoing discussions on military cooperation, illustrate Germany’s continued and constructive commitment to the country.
