Democratic Republic of Congo/Elections 2023: 75.000 observers deployed by a civil society organization
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, 75.000 observers have been deployed for the upcoming general elections on December 20 by the Organization of Civil Society for Peace in Congo (OSPC).
« We have already deployed 75.000 observers throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo. We recruited them in every village, in every territory, in every province », stated Edouard Mutombo, the Secretary-General of OSPC.
«We will be in all polling stations, and as the polling stations will be transformed into counting centers after the elections, our observers will be there, and we will conduct what we call parallel counting with the CENI. This gives us a glimmer of hope to know with certainty what happened in the 74,000 polling stations scattered throughout the country », explained the Secretary-General of OSPC.
« The observers have two applications ; there is an Android application and an IOS application. There are applications that will allow them to send observations with an internet connection, and there is also an application that we have that will allow them to send observations via SMS. This will ensure that during the counting of all this information, although we will not replace the CENI, at least we will come closer in terms of concrete information to what the CENI will present », affirmed Christian LUNGULA, a technician at OSPC.
It is important to note that the Organization of Civil Society for Peace in Congo is a non-governmental organization with a mission to preserve peace and avoid interference.
It is one of the organizations that advocated for the elections to be held within the constitutional timeframe.
