Olympique Lyonnais secured a second significant victory on the field of AS Monaco this Friday (1-0). This success can be attributed in part to a team that appears to be more united and coherent under the leadership of Pierre Sage.
Some may have thought that the debacle against Olympique de Marseille (0-3) was the first step towards relegation to Ligue 2. However, that defeat seems to have sparked a rebellion. Since then, Olympique Lyonnais has bounced back with a win against Toulouse at home (3-0), followed by a second consecutive victory on the field of AS Monaco (1-0), allowing the team to finally climb out of the bottom spot in Ligue 1.
Demonstrating much-improved technical mastery, the team delivered a quality first half against the third-placed team in the league. They managed to secure the win despite facing difficulties after halftime, a situation they might not have overcome a few weeks ago.
«We always believed in victory because we are competitors, even though the situation is complicated. But we are a united group, moving forward hand in hand, and we need to maintain this mindset with a lot of humility because we just want to move forward and save the club. After that, we’ll see, but initially, we need to collect as many points as possible», explained Anthony Lopes after the match.
